Went for my company's Orientation at Science Park today. There were 60+ of us and we were brought to visit the various labs in the company. The first one we went to was the condom-testing lab.
There is piles and piles of unopened condom everywhere in the room and there are about 10 or more people inside it testing the condoms. Saw 5 people testing the condoms using the machine below where water are filled into the condoms and tested for their durability.
Then some of the condoms are put in machines where they will keep bursting. I think they are testing the different pressure that the condoms will be able to withstand.
Another girl was busy unrolling condoms onto the gadget below, then input the measurement into the computer.
Some are left to "aged" in machines. For example, leave the condoms in a 70 C machine for 7 days, and test it to see if it will still "work" after being exposed to high temperatures or so.
According to the manager of the lab, these condom testing services brings one of the highest revenue to the company.
An eye-opener for all of us. Strangely, we do not feel awkward in that situation. We wee too busy Oh-ing and Ah-ing. Haha
